Subgenus Allactaga. Includes jaculus Pallas (Ognev, 1963b:94; Pavlinov and Rossolimo, 1987:154). Subspecific revision and additional distributional data provided by Shenbrot (1993). Although modern western margins of range are near Moscow and Kiev, the species occurred as far west as Germany and Austria during the Pleistocene (Kowalski, 2001).
