Subgenus Macropus. Opinion 760 of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (1966) placed this name on the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology, see Calaby et al. (1963) for discussion. Revised by Kirsch and Poole (1972) who discussed specific limits and the subspecies included in this taxon. See Poole (1982, Mammalian Species, 187).
