Origin and general distribution
Parrot’s feather is native to South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru). It is an established alien species in South Africa, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the United States (including Hawaii) as well as in Europe in Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Italy and Portugal. The submerged parts survive, even in low winter temperatures, but an ice cover weakens the species’ chances of success.
The chart shows temporal distribution of the observations, which is not the same as population increase/decrease.
