Origin and general distribution
Afrikankynsisammakon alkuperäinen levinneisyys kattaa useimmat Saharan eteläpuoliset Afrikan maat. Afrikankynsisammakko on yleinen koe-eläin laboratorioissa ympäri maailman. Lisäksi lajia on viety lemmikiksi eri puolille maailmaa. Laboratorioista tai akvaarioharrastajilta karanneet yksilöt ovat muodostaneet pysyviä populaatioita monenlaisissa ilmastoissa, mm. Euroopassa (Ranskassa, Italiassa, Portugalissa ja Britanniassa), Yhdysvalloissa, Chilessä ja Indonesiassa. Ilmastonmuutoksen myötä sen odotetaan leviävän myös eteläisessä ja keskisessä Euroopassa. Afrikankynsisammakkoa voi olla lemmikkinä myös Suomessa.
