Origin and general distribution
Mäntyankeroinen on kotoperäinen laji Pohjois-Amerikassa (Meksikosta Kanadaan), josta se on levinnyt saastuneen puutavaran mukana Itä-Aasiaan (Japani, Kiina, Taiwan ja Etelä-Korea) ja Eurooppaan (Portugalissa ja Madeiran saarella).
Suomessa mäntyankeroista ei esiinny metsissä, vaikka vuosittain eläviä mäntyankeroisia löydetään puutavarasta tai puisesta pakkausmateriaalista.
