Otsa sileä, karkeakarvainen. Silmät suuret, pyöreät. Koiraiden tuntosarvet lyhytripsiset. Imukärsä hyvin kehittynyt. Huulirihmat eteenpäin suuntautuneet; kärkijaoke litistynyt. Keski- ja takaruumis ilman töyhtöjä.

Koiraiden uncus ohut, ei suippo. Sivulämssän cucullus suuri, selvästi erottuva, sen alakärki pyöreä; digitus pitkä ja ohut, muodostaa lähes suoran kulman costan kanssa ja sijaitsee sivulämssän pinnan ulkopuolella; clavus sileä. Vesicassa kaksi kornuuttia.

Naaraiden munanasetin heikosti kitinisoitunut.

Toukat liereitä, elävät heinäkasveilla (Poaceae), nuorena korressa, isompana syö lehtiä.
