Otsa sileä. Silmät kaljut. Koiraiden tuntosarvet ripsikimppuiset, tyvijaokkeessa ei karvatupsua. Imukärsä täysin kehittynyt. Huulirihmat eteenpäin suuntautuneet; keskijaoke alta karvainen; kärkijaoke tylppä. Pää ja keskiruumis kapeasuomuiset; pro- ja metathoraxissa hajanaiset töyhdöt. Takaruumiin tyvipuoliskossa selkätupsuja.

Naaraiden anaalipapillit vahvasti kitinisoituneet, litistyneet pystysuunnassa.

Toukka elää keväällä heinillä, muodostaa yhteenkehrätyistä ruohonkorsista ja ulosteesta suojan, josta käsin käy ruokailemassa ja johon lopulta koteloituu. Aikuiset lentävät loppukesällä ja syksyllä.
