Hodgetts et al. 2020: Sciuro-hypnum curtum was restored from synonymy with Sciuro-hypnum oedipodium by Ignatov and Milyutina (2007). It is a widespread species in Europe, whereas Sciuro-hypnum oedipodium, which is primarily a western North American species, is very rare, with just a few records from eastern Europe.
