Yleiskuvaus
The trailing stems up to 4 cm in diameter, climbing up trees using adventitious roots which adhere to surfaces. Stems marked by large leaf base scars. The leaves are alternate, heart-shaped, entire on juvenile plants, but irregularly pinnately lobed on mature plants, up to 100 cm long and 45 cm broad; juvenile leaves are much smaller, typically under 20 cm long. Leaf blades usually marked by a few yellowish stripes extending from the midrib to the leaf blade margin. Petioles about 30-40 cm long, flattened or shallowly grooved on the upper surface. 'Stipules' are about 38cm long, papery in texture, enclosing the petiole until the leaf has fully expanded. Inflorescence is a spike-like spadix with numerous densely packed minute flowers that develop into small berries. The spadix is subtended by a large cream-coloured bract (spatha). Flowering is rare.
