Parakautsupuu – Hevea brasiliensis

The trunk is straight, up to at least 50 cm in diameter, without buttresses, branchless for 10 m or more. The bark is grey to light brown, and the inner bark oozes latex when damaged. The leaves are spirally arranged, compound with three leaflets. The leaflets are elliptic, up to 45 cm long, with acute apices, petiolated, with entire margins and pinnate venation. Inflorescence is a pyramidal-shaped axillary panicle. Flowers are small, with greenish-white to creamy-yellow tepals, male and female flowers separate, female flowers usually larger than the male ones. The fruit is a capsule that contains three large seeds; it opens explosively when ripe.
