Yleiskuvaus
Bole is straight, up to 1 m in diameter, branchless for up to 15 m. Bark is greyish and deeply grooved, inner bark reddish-brown. Leaves are alternate, fern-like, 15-33 cm long, pinnately (almost bipinnately) compound, without stipules. The leaf has 11-21 pairs of leaflets, 4-9 cm long, deeply divided into narrow, long, pointed lobes 6-12 mm wide. Upper leaf surface is shiny dark green and hairless, underneath silky with whitish or ash-coloured hairs. Inflorescences are golden-orange bottlebrush-like racemes, 8-15 cm long, bearing numerous flowers. The flowers have no petals, instead they have a long tubular perianth that splits into 4 lobes. The four stamens are sessile in the concave apex of the perianth. Style is curved and protruding from a slit in the perianth tube. Fruits are dark brown leathery dehiscent flattened follicles, about 2 cm long, opening along the ventral margin, with a persistent style. The fruit contains one or two flat, brown, winged seeds, 1-1.5 cm long.
