Lamppuharjat – Callistemon

Leaves are alternate, aromatic, lanceolate to narrow elliptic in shape, and have smooth margins. The new leaves are often coloured and, in some species, they are covered with fine, soft hairs. Inflorescence is a dense cylindrical spike that resembles a bottlebrush. Calyx has a short tube and short (ca. 1 mm) round lobes, petals are 2-3 mm long rounded. Long (ca. 2 cm) filaments give the inflorescence its colour and distinctive 'bottlebrush' shape. The filaments are usually red, but can also be found in shades of pink, yellow, or white, depending on the species. Fruits are roundish woody capsules that open from the apex.
