Collection description
Crowdsorsa is a mobile application that facilitates Finnish municipalities and their citizens to submit observations and control invasive alien plant species. With the application, volunteers document the eradication and/or occurrence of invasive alien plants. Participants record videos while walking around the perimeter of the invasive alien plant occurrence and their mobile device's GPS tracking creates an outline of the area. Participants may also choose to eradicate the occurrence after which they record a second video repeating the recording process after the plants have been removed. Financial rewards are paid to the volunteers for their participation. This dataset includes data on both occurrences and the control actions recorded by the participants. (en)
(fi)

Volunteer non-expert participants have recorded alien invasive plant species using a mobile application that records a time-stamped video and a GPS track of the perimeter of an occurrence. The volunteer also estimates the percentage cover of the plants within the area of the occurrence (choosing among 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 percent). Experts later verify each occurrence's identification and estimate of cover by checking the recorded video, adjusting the cover estimate if required. Optional subsequent eradication control actions by the participants are recorded and verified in the same way.Collection quality
