The Kerttu project has ended

Massive thanks to everyone participating in the Kerttu project! This pilot was a success: with the help of data generated by the bird experts, an automated method was developed that identifies 100 Finnish birds better than previous state-of-the-art methods. In addition to publishing the method openly for anyone, there is a scientific article in preparation which focuses on citizen science and describes the Kerttu portal and how it was used to collect this data.

The Kerttu portal itself has now been closed, and a new portal Bird Sounds Global (BSG) opened. In BSG, you can listen to and identify the sounds of bird species globally from all the LIFEPLAN survey sites where audio data has been collected. In BSG, you can also help build and validate a library of representative sounds for the world's bird species.

Bird Sounds Global can be found at:

Many thanks for your contribution to Kerttu and wishing you enjoyable moments with BSG!
