Description
Yellow skunk cabbage is a perennial, impressive and tall member of the Arum family, thriving in wet habitats and known from water gardens. By midsummer, the leaves are more than one metre long and a single rosette may cover an area totalling an entire square metre. The inflorescence, which develops before the leaves in the spring, is surrounded by a showy bright yellow spathe, which is typical of members of the Arum family. The plant produces highly viable seeds that are spread by flowing water.
The yellow skunk cabbage is an undemanding species in terms of habitats. It thrives in many types of humid and wet habitats, including mires, the shores of lakes and ponds, and brook shores. Both sandy and clay soils will do as substrate. yellow skunk cabbage also thrives in both shade and sunshine. In addition, it is highly resistant to frosts of up to -15 degrees.
